To better serve you, we’ve compiled a few of our most frequently asked questions and answered them below. If you have a question that isn’t addressed below, of course we’re here to assist. The real answer is, it depends! We stand behind the American Dental Association’s recommendation to consult with your dentist on this one, as the answer can vary from person to person. When you meet Dr. Michelle Kelly, she’ll analyze your current oral health status and consult with you about your health history to arrive at a suitable suggestion for your specific needs.
Want the short answer? Regularly enough that our focus is on prevention and detection—not on restoration and rehab. Usually that means every six months. If you don’t already know Dr. Michelle Kelly, you’ll find out soon enough: she is a firm believer in catching things early to ensure that you have a healthy smile for life.
Nobody loves Girl Scout cookies more than Dr. Michelle Kelly (and her daughters!), so we wouldn’t expect you to give up sweet treats and drinks. Whew! But we can’t stress enough how important it is to regularly brush and floss your pearly whites to clean away residue left behind after sugary or carbohydrate-rich foods. This helps prevent tooth decay that could lead to cavities, which are small holes in the tooth. A checkup every six months is a good idea, so that we can identify and fight cavities early—before they turn into bigger dental problems.
Yes, they’re safer than ever at Delafield Family Dental, where we’re pleased to introduce digital radiography to our toolbox. Digital X-rays, which replace traditional dental film, dramatically reduce your exposure to radiation levels. Not only that, they’re quick—so you’re in and out of the chair faster—and the image quality is better. With a better view of your teeth, Dr. Michelle Kelly can provide more accurate diagnoses to support your oral health.
If you’re interested in straightening your smile, you’ve probably considered both wire braces and Invisalign. We find that many of our patients are interested in Invisalign because of their near invisibility. (Plus, it can be pretty great to take them off and enjoy a meal without fuss.) That said, sometimes patients find that wire braces are a better fit for their needs. It comes down to aesthetics, treatment time, cost, patient lifestyle and ability to fit follow-up care into your schedule. If you’re considering your options, call (262) 646-4188 to set up a consultation with our office. We’ll give you all the information you need to choose the right straightening method for you.
